The plan

We are leaving tomorrow! We'll get to Louisiana (that's where she is) Wednesday morning, we'll sign the paperwork and then hopefully we'll be able to take her with us. What that will hinge on is whether our funds will be available. It's complicated, but hopefully a check that is being sent to us (or, actually, to the home of the very kind and generous blogger who is letting us stay with her) will arrive that afternoon. Once it does, and we give it to the attorney, we are free to leave with the baby!

We'll stay overnight there that night, then start heading home on Thursday. We'll spend the night along the way that night, and then make it the rest of the way on Friday. It's hard to believe, but we could be back here with our baby girl later this week!

We also got a more recent picture of her today. Without further ado, here she is!

The woman at the law office took a cell phone picture of a picture, so it's not the best quality. It was taken in the hospital, so it's at least a week old. Apparently the nurses dressed her up for it, huge bow and all!

Okay, back to work. I'm finishing up the nursery, doing laundry, packing, cleaning. Oh, and I'm sick. Ah! It's just a cold, so hopefully I'll feel fine by Wednesday!

I wanted to offer you a stop off place here in Memphis on your way to/from LA, if you feel you need it. I couldn't tell from your post if you were driving or not, but if you are, Memphis is a nice place to break up the trip from VA to LA. Our home is open to all three of you, and my sister has a crib for the baby to sleep in that she could bring over (a co-sleeper bassinett type thing, actually). The offer stands, if you need it! :) Best wishes to you all and many prayers for a safe journey!

  7. PS Re: my most recent post. I'm holding myself back from buying a crib, but I am cleaning, decorating and trying to empty out the "room of shame" in my house (the room that should be a nursery, but is instead where I drop off all my junk). haha.

  36. Hi, Karey,

I’ve been following your blog for a while now, about a year and a half, I think. I can’t remember how I came here, but after one visit I knew I’d keep checking on you, waiting with you for the blessing of a child that I knew would come. Now I can quit lurking, and add my comment to all the rest—soo happy for you!!

My heart has ached for you over these past few months, and then when you posted about a potential adoption situation, I was almost afraid to hope for you, worried that you would suffer an unbearable disappointment. However, as I read about your mom coming across the novena to St. Therese, I got goose bumps. I had just been thinking earlier that day that it was St. Therese’s birthday. Remember that she said that she wanted to spend her heaven doing good on earth. She certainly knows how to take care of her birthday sister!

I can’t wait to see the pictures of your sweet family!

    Congratulations!
    Anita

  38. Oh my gosh!!! Louisiana is my home state!!! How amazing that you are going to be getting your daughter so soon!
I'm not sure what part of the state you're going to, but my mom and sister live in Lafayette (and my dad is a lawyer if you come across any funny business :)) and would be glad to give assistance in any way if needed. Let me know...
I'm just so excited for you, and so amazed at your daughter's tiny little, beautiful face. What a blessing!

  40. She is gorgeous. Her big dark eyes make me melt. I can't wait to see more. I have a little something coming to you, but it won't be able to be shipped until Tuesday. A friend of a friend is making it, and given your colors, I hope it is a nice addition. :)

Your joy is like that of Hannah's: "I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted my request."

  43. Praise God! I have been following your blog for a while, but I don't comment often. I love how God suprises us in the most unexpected ways!

I remember a couple weeks back you wrote a post about how you felt God has closed all the doors to motherhood for you. But even though your situation seemed hopeless, you chose to put all your hope in God. And, oh, how He has blessed you for your faithfulness!

Praying for a safe journey! Can't wait to see more pictures!

  49. Oh my gosh, she's a doll!! So precious!

I can't get over it. I'm so happy for you guys. For the last month or so, every time I'd pray for you, I'd get a strong feeling that something big was going to happen soon, but I didn't have any idea what and didn't want to say anything (I mean I'm sure you hear stuff like that all the time!)
