Still sick

It's my fourth day of the flu and cycle day one. I went to the doctor this morning and tested positive for influenza type A. Probably swine flu, according to the doctor. Thankfully, they don't think I have pneumonia.

This has been a terrible week. I'm just glad my fever seems to have broken and the power is back on (we've had a lot of rain). My misery would have reached a new level today if I had to sit alone in the darkness and cold.

I talked to Dr. L today on the phone since the flu is keeping me from coming in on cycle day one. She suggested taking this cycle off. Whatever. I agreed to it mainly because I have no fight left in me. What does it really matter anyway?

  1. It matters. It is important to you and that is why it matters. You are just ready to move on, have some renewed hope, find some answers.
And they say stress or sickness sometimes delays AF. In my household she always appears on the wrong day, but then again - everyday is the wrong day!!!
I hope that they were able to give you some medication to make you feel better. Isn't your appointment with the other doctor right around the corner? I will be praying that your miracles show up right on TIME!

  2. Thanks, LIM! My appointment with Dr. S isn't til the end of January. But after all this time, what's another three months? Honestly, that's why I'm not concerned with taking this cycle off. And it might be good to show him an unmedicated cycle anyways.

And I think we'll continue to look into the hostile mucus thing this cycle and R's getting the SA, so at least I'll have something to infertility-related to focus on.

  3. It might be a good idea to see if you are having the same hostile mucus on an unmedicated cycle if you are going unmedicated anyways. I hope that you start feeling better soon. Upper respiratory stuff sucks (cold, flu, etc.); it always takes so long to get over.

  4. K, I am sorry you are so sick! It sounds awful. In answer to your question -- yes, I made an appointment with Dr. Stegman. I called today and they could not get me in until the end of Feb. (depressing).
From what I've heard from others who have gone to him, he really takes time to look at charts and try to figure out what is going on and is follows up with his patients every month. I love our doctor, but I think he is just so busy delivering babies he does not have time for me. I have called there 5 times in the past two weeks and cannot get anyone to call me back. I also made an appointment with Dr. L for the end of this month (the first time I could get in with her). I've only ever seen Dr B before.

  5. IATG - That's great about Dr. S! Then I think it is totally worth learning to chart to see him. My appt. is for the end of Jan.

  6. The flu that is going around is awful. My mother-in-law let hers go too long. She started feeling bad a week ago from Tuesday. She's in ICU now heavily sedated and on a ventilator. We all feel a bit lost without her. We are praying hard and hoping she starts to improve.

  7. Jen - That is terrible! I will keep her in my prayers. That is why I went to the doctor today.. I knew there was nothing they could really do, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't getting worse.

  8. K - I'm in the "take a cycle" (or 2 or 3) off area now and know that it does matter and can be discouraging to just sit on the sidelines. I hope and pray you feel better soon . . . physcially and emotionally.

  9. Booo flu!!! I'm so sorry that you're still so sick. And honestly, I'd like to kick AF's butt. Send her over here and I'll welcome her!

Get lots of rest and let your body heal. Perhaps taking a month off is a blessing in disguise? Then again, I've been taking time off since May and I'm starting to get impatient.

Sending you big hugs and prayers!

  10. I think you doctor's advice sounds reasonable - disappointing to be sure - but reasonable. (boo reasonable - ;) ) It's probably be not to be trying with your immune system in overdrive.
    thinking of you!
