Rising progesterone

My doctor's office called today with my peak +9 test results. They are as follows:

Progesterone: 34.66
Estradiol: 372

They have both risen since Monday's peak +7 results, which were:

Progesterone: 27
Estradiol: 241

What the heck does that mean? Of course, I asked the nurse, and she didn't have anything to add. Just that today's numbers were "perfect."

My progesterone rose after peak +7 the month of the false pregnancy test, too, but in that instance it fell on peak +9 and then rose again on peak +11. This is the first time since we've been testing that it has just kept rising.

Since I haven't had a doctor's appointment since October (other than my adoption physical in December), I have no way of knowing what any of this means. Good, bad, irrelevant, I have no idea. Well, to be honest, I did talk to my doctor on the phone the month of the false test (I guess that's what I've dubbed it) and he said that it was good. After all, progesterone means pro gestation, right? The fact that it is high is a good sign because it means that life could possibly take hold in my womb. Yes, I know it probably won't...but it's at least providing a better atmosphere for it to than in cycles past.

I guess my point is - it can't hurt.

Oh, please don't tell me it actually can hurt. Like that progesterone that keeps rising but doesn't result in a pregnancy is actually indicative of some big problem. That being said, let me know if you actually do know what this might mean, if anything, or if you have seen it before.

I had my peak +11 draw today so hopefully I'll get those results on Monday.

  1. It's a good sign. I'm not going to say it's a TERRIFIC sign, however, because I would almost expect the #s to go down and then back up after implantation, kwim?

I had my progesterone rise from P+7 to P+9 one cycle right after my surgery, and what happened that month was my LH surge didn't happen until a day after Peak (and I felt O pains 2 days after Peak)... plus my post-Peak phase was longer than usual by two days, so we deduced that I ovulated 2 days after Peak. So one possible explanation could be that your P+9 was actually the 7dpo "peak" in progesterone. Not to burst any bubbles or anything.

That being said, you are right that high progesterone is always a good thing... and this COULD mean something more. We'll just have to wait and see!

  2. That's a really good point.. I wondered that myself, actually.

And don't worry, you didn't burst my bubble at all! I definitely don't think I'm pregnant! Haha! I just like to think that perhaps something is moving in the right direction at least.. and the levels are still good and high so that's what I should focus on, I guess!

  3. why would progesterone go down upon implantation? doesn't it result from the rupture of the corpus luteum?

listen to me pretending I know what I'm talking about.

well, I think high progesterone is great. I won't be a meanie and say it could mean you're pregnant (it COULD though!), because you know your treatment regimen and your history and as I may have possibly mentioned before, false hope is the devil.

but I hope you're getting healthier and healthier!

it's so weird to be young and sturdy and DEFECTIVE.

  4. I'm so tired of trying to figure it all out! My hubby always laughs because I'm trying to diagnose myself and others, as if I'm a doctor. :)

Let me know if you learn anything! I would imagine that high progesterone is overall a good thing. When is your next appointment? I think you said something about June, but I can't remember. Maybe we can get together when you're up this way!
