That may be because I have seen them around actual babies lately...

| Although, in reality, his six-month-old cousin does weigh the same as him. |
But it might also be because Luke is basically my second two-year-old lately. Our little Irish twins now might as well be real twins.
I'm not sure when it happened, but Luke and Clara are equally giving me a run for my money. They both fight bed time (oh, you have no idea what we are dealing with over here), throw tantrums (Clara still more than Luke, thankfully), fight with each other, inflict bodily harm upon each other, make it their job to never stay in naughty spot, and just generally wreak havoc on our house.
Not that you could tell from this...

| Or, maybe you can. Is it just me, or do they even look like they're up to something here? |
It's truly amazing how much the second child can rise (or drop, as the case may be) to the level of the first one.
And it's not all bad stuff. For instance, he is so verbal, which I'm assuming is because of her. I bet the influence is even greater than if she was a lot older than him. I think because of their closeness in age, he really feels like he needs to keep up with her.
And oh boy, does he ever. She is still more verbal than he is, of course, but he can definitely hold his own. I have even overheard them having conversations with each other, which the first time was the weirdest thing. My two itty-bitty babies saying, Clara:"You want to go outside, Lukie?" Luke:"I'll go outside." C:"Get your shoes." L:"Where my shoes?"
Weren't they just born? Now they conversating separate from their mother? Making plans?
Here's Luke at lunch today, telling me very matter-of-factly what he's doing...
And while I'm posting videos, here's Clara jumping in the pool yesterday. It was her third time in a big pool this summer and her first time jumping in. And let me tell you, she LOVES the pool and everything about it. She would live in the water if we let her. But when did she become big enough to do this??? Babies don't jump in the pool!
And with that nap time is over. It's been so long that I forgot how great it is to recharge during simultaneous naps. I could get used to this..

They are PRECIOUS!! It seems like just yesterday I was reading your post when you were going to get Clara. :)
ReplyDeletecutie pies!
ReplyDeleteoh they are both DARLING! I love to hear those little voices!
ReplyDeleteBedtime....omg. War can't be this bad. I loathe bedtime. It's bad. Bad!!! We will win in the end though! They will go to bed and SLEEP!
I can't believe it either! I feel like Luke was just born....
ReplyDeleteDoes C take swimming lessons because I about died when her head went under water!!!! :)
I am so amazed that C goes right in like that!! L loves the water too but is way more tentative in it than that! I agree, her jumping in and going under is a very special thing for her age! I could totally let her do that all day long, though! I try and try to get our L to do jump in but she never wants to. She likes to scoot in. And we go to the pool almost every day.
ReplyDeleteLukie and Clara talking is so funny! And yes the second one rises or drops according to the first lol. We are seeing all those same things over here, and are amazed at how we are having to let go of babyhood all ready. I cherish every single night I can rock them, because there will be day where they will not be interested in rocking!
They are so cute ... I loved when my two (fourteen months apart) talked to one another ... it was incredible, like your two.
ReplyDeleteOne day when the younger one was still not all that understandable, I asked his older brother what G had just said. He told me "blah, ta, de dah" (verbatim of what G had said) which left me with no more of an understanding of what had been said...silly me!
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! These are the days that you will look back upon and think "they were little!" (even though they are big to you, now!)
Cute videos! They ARE getting so big! Luke's talking is sooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteAwww, they are SO cute! Yes, they are getting big! I feel like my 2 are pretty much done with the baby stage too. Addy still nurses, so at least she has that little bit of baby left:). But my two do the same thing - they seem to match each other's abilities. Addy is more verbal so she has pushed Jackson but he helps her learn new words, too. Behavior-wise, they also feed off of each other. Like yours, mine are like twins at this point. The gap between them seems to be so small! Your "babies" are too cute:). They will ALWAYS be babies to us, right??
ReplyDeleteLook at Luke's hair! So big boyish! Why do they want to grow up so fast??? :(
ReplyDeleteSometime after the first 18 months, they turn into big kids. My oldest 2 are 4.5 and 3 and I occasionally get asked if they're twins. My hubby and I love listening to their ridiculous conversations! btw, perhaps it's time for Clara to move up to the next sandal size? :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! We have "Irish Twins" too.... my youngest just turned one but her desire to keep up with her sister who's 8 months her senior has slowed her down. She has no desire to walk since crawling gets her to her sister's action much quicker :)
