Beth tagged me last weekend for this meme. I'm a little late, but here goes - 25 random things about me (and I will warn you, they are ran-dom):
1. I hate watching a movie I've seen before and would never, ever, ever read a book twice (I know it's not popular to say, but I'm lucky if I read a book once).
2. I wear glasses most of the time, ever since contacts started bothering my eyes a few years ago, but I hate to be photographed with them on.
3. I am an artist, but I haven't done a painting in a year and a half.
4. I do not believe the Global Warming hype. I am a conservationist and while global temperatures may currently be rising, I'm among those who don't believe it's man's fault nor even necessarily a crisis. And if I have to see one more green network television logo, I'm going to scream.
5. I used to play the clarinet and the alto sax and loved it, but haven't played since high school.
6. I used to play the piano but the only song I know by heart is Canon in D, which is my specialty.
7. I can't whistle.
8. My engagement ring is my grandmother's diamond (we were super close but she died when I was little).
9. The jeweler my husband used to reset my grandmother's diamond was later arrested for fraud, specifically for switching out real diamonds with fakes. After freaking out, we took my ring to a jewelry store to be examined and was told it was real (and quite spectacular, they added!).
10. My favorite word and color is raspberry, but I don't like to eat them.
11. I prefer hard, flat surfaces to fluffly ones when sleeping. If I had to choose between two pillows or none (because isn't that a choice that we're all faced with at some point in our lives?), I'd choose none, and I once slept on the floor for several months by choice.
12. I am known for becoming obsessed with any given food for months, and then waking up one day and hating it. I did it as a baby and still do it.
13. I was an odd child - I used to have my family clap for my last piece of food and I refused to eat oatmeal in flannel nightgowns because, well, that material isn't right for that type of food, obviously!!!
14. When my younger sister was born, the visiting nurse (did we live in the 1800's?) wrote in her file "watch out for the older sister."
15. I was in a sorority in college that apparently was quite an achievement to get into, but I never really felt like I fit in. The girls were really pretty and rich, so I was really intimidated around them.
16. I talk to barely any friends from high school and none from college. I'm not great at keeping in touch.
17. I was kind of wild in high school and college and did many things I now regret. Many things.
18. I don't drink any alcohol now for two reasons - 1) A few years ago my heart would race whenever I drank so I assume I developed some sort of allergy, and, 2) I hate the taste and stopped forcing myself to drink it once I left college and was no longer worried about what other people thought. I do love pina coladas, though, and in my pre-diet days would still have one of those about once a year.
19. I am still a fan of President Bush, despite that being very out of fashion.
20. I made my first feature-length film the summer before fifth grade. It was called Mall Madness and I served as writer, director, actor, and even composed the music (it involved a rap). It's a cinematic classic.
21. I've tested positive for mono three times and was suspected of having it a fourth time.
22. I had meningitis when I was three.
23. I really miss Chinese food on this diet. Sometimes it's all I think about.
24. I love the smell of my dog (not dogs in general.. just MY dog). I've been known to say that if I could bottle it, I'd wear it as a perfume.
25. The first time I saw my husband he was on television. I was home for a break my senior year of college and was watching the news with my younger sister when he came on. I asked her why she hadn't told me about him (if you knew my sister you'd think it was funny that I would expect her to notice and also tell me) and I told her that I was going to marry him. He, for some reason, does not believe that this actually happened, and unfortunately while my sister remembers seeing him with me, she does not remember the marriage comment.

Because I love these things...
I was tagged by kcmarie122 to answer these questions about my blog a few days ago. I will try to make it as interesting as they always seem on everyone else's blogs, but I'm not promising anything.
1. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog because I wanted to post on someone else's blog and I needed a google account, or whatever it is, to do so. I know that doesn't mean you have to start a blog, but I figured that was the little push I needed.
2. How did you come up with your blog name?
I knew I wanted my blog to be Catholic-focused, and religious in nature, so I grabbed the Bible for inspiration. I opened it up, blindly, and pointed and when I opened my eyes I was pointing to the verse "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord" in Psalms. I'm kidding! I actually think I looked up "hope" in the back of the Bible and turned to all the references until I found one I liked. This was perfect because it didn't describe my attitude at the time, but it was something I knew I needed to remember. I figured if I had to look at it each day, it might begin to sink in. And, I'm happy to report, it has!
3. Do your friends and family know about your blog and what do they think?
My husband knows about it and he thinks it has been my saving grace because my attitude has improved remarkably since it began. I didn't let him read it at first, and although he knew about it and could have found it, he refrained (or so he says!). Eventually, I gave him permission and he now reads it on a regular basis.
I also have one friend who knows about it, and she found it by accident (although we know there are no coincidences with God). We actually had just met when she found it, and had I not posted my picture the day before, she wouldn't have had any idea that it was me. As for everyone else in my life, none of them know. I'm super open about my infertility, but for some reason it makes me uncomfortable to think they could read about my mucus. It's an issue I will need to confront in the coming days, though, because if someone I know googles the name of my documentary, this blog comes up as a result. In fact, that could have already happened. I'm thinking of just going public and not worrying about it. I think I would be relieved! Maybe my writing will change a little bit because I'll be thinking in the back of my mind that so-and-so might be reading it, but I think that's a worthwhile trade-off for being able to come clean. Then again, do I want everyone in my life to know when I have a bad day? Ahh! It's tough. My goal is to help others like me, and I just have a feeling I may be able to do that on a grander scale if my blog isn't a secret.
4. How do you write posts?
It's a stream-of-consciousness thing. I just open the "new post" window and write. (I know, that is probably evident).
5. Have you ever had a troll or had to delete unkind comments?
I'm not sure what a troll is, but if I assume it is someone who leaves nasty comments, then no, thankfully, I have not.
6. Do you check your stats or care how many people read your blog? If so, how do you increase traffic?
Because the whole blogging world was so new to me, it took me a couple months before I realized there was such a thing as stat.counter or site.meter. I do check my stats now and while I may let out a little 'woo-hoo!' when it sets a new personal record for visits in a day, I definitely don't try to increase my traffic. To be honest, I'm not even sure how I would accomplish that (and to think I've worked in marketing).

I've been tagged!
Yay! I know some people get tagged all the time and are over it, but this is a first for me (thanks Beth), so I'm excited!
Rules of the meme:
1. Post these rules of the game first.
2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names. Then the tagger goes to the blogs of those who have been tagged & leaves a comment letting new players know they’ve been tagged. The tagger asks them to find the meme and instructions back at his/her blog.
What I was doing 10 years ago: I have no idea! Okay, let's see. Ten years ago I was a junior at Syracuse University and I was studying abroad in London. And right about now I was probably either spending spring break in Italy with my five roommates, or had just returned to London from that trip and my sister was visiting me.
Five things on my To Do List today:
1. Meet with an adoption agency
2. Get my hair cut
3. Work on my documentary
4. Mail stuff to PPVI that is long overdue
5. Make dinner
Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
1. I would donate tons of money to PPVI so they could conduct research wherever there's a need (like maybe to find a cure for lutenized unruptured follicle syndrome!)
2. Donate money to pro-life causes and our church
3. Give money to my parents so my dad can retire and move them wherever we are
4. Build my dream house and design everything in it
5. Start a big production company with lots of employees (not just me with no money) to make documentaries that promote the Church and life issues
Three of my bad habits:
1. procrastinating
2. being a pessimist
3. spending too much time online
Five places I have lived:

3. New Hartford, NY
4. Manhattan

Five people I want to know more about: And Not By Sight, TTC Depression, Shannon and... Okay, I barely know five bloggers (especially ones who haven't recently been tagged themselves), so I'll leave it at that!
